Pacific Highway Upgrade – Yelgun to Chinderah

Project: Pacific Highway Upgrade – Yelgun to Chinderah
Client: Abigroup

Design of all overpass bridges for a 28km deviation of the Pacific Highway, south of Tweed Heads, Northern NSW.

Features:

  • BG&E's involvement included the design of all overpass bridges. This included 7 super T bridges up to 38.5m span, 2 arch bridges spanning over 50m and 1 post-tensioned, two span, twin T bridge. There were also 4 fauna arch tunnels.
  • Eviron Road Overpass forms a gateway at the northern end of the upgrade. Twin arches span over 50m, supporting precast portal frames and concrete planks.
  • The Old Pacific Highway Overpass is a post-tensioned, twin T bridge. The two span bridge is on a 55 degree skew, with spans of 40 and 50m.
  • The twin fauna tunnels allow for fauna to safely cross over the new roadway. Precast concrete arches sit on the cast in situ concrete walls.
